Mind explaining how that works please? I usually pry the back window open with my pocket knife. About getting into a locked ranger I mean. And by the way, I'm glad I caught this thread, my truck does the same thing. Thought it was my fuel pump, but figured it wasn't since after I beat on everything I could reach under the hood(including fuse box) it would usually work well for a while. Seemed weather dependent also.

I own a slim jim...

My father in law works at EW Trucking as the parts manager. I should have the ICM in today. I will let you know if it works

yes... slim jims are helpful if you have them. But I'm curious about DiabloBlanco's suggestion to shove the antenna down the door handle hole. I don't have a slim jim but I do happen to have an antenna and a door handle. Are you blowin' smoke Diablo, or do you know somethin' I don't?...

If I remember correctly there is a gap just big enought for a small/antenna to fit in underneath your door handle. If you look in there you can see the locking mechanism. Use the antenna to unlock your truck

That's definitely worth knowing... I only have one key and it stays in the ignition at all times. Sometimes other people lock my truck for me. Thanks for the info!

Oh yeah! Did you get your ICM?

so your issue sounds sort of like mine. The first time it doesn't start after it has been running, does it catch and then sputter out after a second or two? That's what mine does. I didn't quite fix it but it's does it less now, and doesn't take as long to start. Sat for a few days once and when it finally started I took it my mechanic, he couldn't get it to not start. Had it for a month too. But he did fix my blinkers, which means he fooled aroung near the ignition stuff in the steering column. Another mechanic I spoke with about the problem afterwards thought the problem might lie with the ignition in the steering column. I didn't tell him about the blinker thing. Now if it doesn't start, I turn the key off, wait a minute then turn it all the way until just before it cranks, and listen for the fuel pump to turn on. If not I wait a minute then do it again. I do it until I hear the fuel pump, then presto!

----------

And if all that is completely irrelevant to your situation, when's the last time you swapped your PCV,air filter, serpentine belt, plugs, wires? Or just banged on your EGR valve, and wiggled all you sensors and electrical connections. Simple shit like that has gotten me home more than once...

Didn't I tell you in another thread? For starters it's in real screwy place. Left of the brake fluid reservoir and behind the dipstick you'll see a skinny hose looping down and a fat hose coming up to meet it. where they connect you'll see a metal flange. That flange is your PCV valve. Just pull the hoses apart. The whole assembly is just floating there.

----------

Let me know if you find it

I have a 4.0 so not much help....But how many miles on the beast and when was the last time it had a timing belt? Also, can you verify fuel pressure with gauge? And finally, I locked my self out three times and finally put a key on a looped wire tie and stuck it in a bed cross member. Next to my vasectomy, it's the smartest thing I ever did!
