Default Pulling codes, without scanner?

I have an 87 ranger 4-Cylinder 5 speed, no acceleration after warm up, pedal almost has to be to the floor to get me to move and then if i drift to lower rpms like just coasting it bucks alot, it runs fine at high rpms and highways speeds.

Thinking its the tps and i want to pull the codes see what i get (how would i do that?), before buying one new for 30$...

Also going to clean the maps because of poor idle after warm up, cold its runs about 1000rpms after about 700 to 500, but at stop lights and such its been diping to like 300 and trying to stall... so dam cold here thought.

Oh yeah im new here, hello.

i know on the old yotas you used to be able to bypass some connector with a paper clip and then read the flashing check engine light, idk if you can do that with a ford or not
