Default 85 ranger 2.3 base ignition timing at 20 btdc at idle is this normal

i have a 85 ranger 2.3 and when i unplug the spout conector and set my base timing to 10 btdc then tighten the dizzy but when i plug the spout back in the timing jumps to 20 btdc i was wondering if that was normal for these engines but that sounds like alot of advance for idle
