Coolant issues once again
In case any of you recall, Ive replaced various hoses, Heater Control Valve, many fittings, Coolant overflow Resevoir, Water Pump, and Radiator.
And guess what? ITS.STILL.LEAKING
Yep, the Heater Control valve it seems, the little metal arm seems to be the source. Alittle drip doesnt really bother me that much, however its right above my headers, and it causes it to smoke. This just looks well, bad. Scares the girlfriend and various passerbys when it decides to smoke. It's more of a clean steamy smoke than a white thick smoke, but still very noticable.
Any ideas? I just replaced this one recently, heat works liek a charm and has all along.
Also, my other issue is coolant hiding on me. Sometimes itll be really low after awhile, just shy of the min line. Ill put it between min and max after its sit a few hours, then Ill check it a few days later and its at some point overflowed and is fuller than it was before. Any ideas here?
One more related problem. This thing runs hot. Occasionally my reading in the truck will go up, hit alittle over half way then after say five seconds drop back down to what it usually runs at. This happens randomly and in no regard to incline, or acceleration. I figured maybe it was just picking up a piece of hot coolant, but I don't know much about the coolant system to make a real guess here. The truck feels hot even after shut off for abit, way hotter than I believe it should.
Either way, I'll be cutting two holes in the spade on my hood to install some hood louvers sometime in the near future, hope itll help the hot problems alittle bit.
Anyone got some tips on where to start?

Re: Coolant issues once again
try a new radiator cap, cap is designed to work both ways to let/suck coolant in from reservoir and push coolant out to reservoir.. A bad cap can cause over heating too

Re: Coolant issues once again
As I listed the parts I have replaced, I thought about this.
Probably shouldve done so when I replaced the overflow tank after the first one melted. Any idea how much that cap would run me? I might go grab one this week if its cheap.

Re: Coolant issues once again
The two Auto stores only have the same thing, and I picked it up for 5.50 at Autozone because they had the manual I was going to get, unfortunately they were out.
I slapped it on, hopefully is cure one of my problems. I still have the leak.
However while waiting in line at Bojangles it started to steam/smoke. This was almost immediatedly after I cut off my heat. Turned it back on and it went away.
This usually doesnt make a difference, though I found it kindly odd this time around.

Re: Coolant issues once again
Replaced the cap, very little difference here.
However, the smoke was really bad today, I popped the hood to check for sure where it was coming from, and its BELOW the T.
Theres a hose down there with some heat wrap around it, and the smoke it soming out from here. What does that line go to, the tranny or engine? I don't know how far in that hose goes, how hard is it to change usually?
I'd REALLY like to get this fixed once and for all, so I can finally get into some good mods again :]

Re: Coolant issues once again
It turned out to be the hose laeding into the engine from the tee that had a leak. It finally split the otherday and I put on a new one with brand new heat wrap. So far so good it seems.
I've already replaced the valve once. Its cheap, but it was a pain to drain it all out and put it on.
