Default 4 cylinder vibration

Bought a 2010 XLT 4 cylinder automatic that has a bad vibration in the engine at 2000 RPM. Was thinking maybe a motor mount.

Default Re: 4 cylinder vibration

I purchased a new 2011 XLT extended cab 4 banger with same vibration. I returned to dealer and drove another standard cab with 4 cyl/auto and it was exactly the same. I guess it is the nature of the beast. I read somewhere that they left the counter rotating shaft out of the engine to save a few bucks. After inspection I noticed that there is a weight welded to the top side of the exhaust between the CAT and muffler. I have experimented with additional weights clamped to the exhaust with slight improvemt. I have one at the back of the CAT and another just in front of the OEM one. I just used round bar stock about 2.5 x 6 inches long, maybe 6-8 lbs. Improvement was minimal and I am going to keep experimenting. It seems to seek the 2K rpm range at most low speeds but is great at 60+. I was impressed with passing power at highway speeds but then I am an old man.
