Default Heater problem

I have a 1996 XLT 2.5 5 speed. When i turn the heater knob to hot there is still no hot air from the heater. It continues to blow cold air. The Haynes manual says to look behind the glove box for the cable and adjust it. I pulled the glove box down but there is no cable. Someone said there is an access panel but i don't see that either. I can not find a cable to adjust. I would appreciate any help on how to adjust this cable to get heat.

could be the heater core and it could be 9 other things........you need to DX and then repair.........and the OP has a 2.3 not a 2.5 or else he has a 2.5 and not a 1996

There are lots of things it could be. Blinding trying to fix things until it works is not the solution.

- Does the temp gauge on the instrument panel climb above C?
- Are both hoses going to the heater core hot when you have the heat on
- Is the radiator full and the tank 1/2 full (check on a cold engine)
- How old is the water pump?
