Default Poor gas mileage, Help!!!

I have 2002 ranger with a 2.3 stick. I thought it would get better mileage than the 22mpg I'm getting. I just repalced the pluges and wires, new tires, fuel injector cleaner. Can any one tell me whats wrong? This truck seems to be running fine and I do not have lead foot. I 'm baffeled!

I think that is excellent mpg in my opinion. I think the next best thing would either not drive it or push it around for better mpg lol

I'm pretty sure that was getting 21 out of a 4x4 supercab with a 4.0v-6 I thought it would be much better in this wimpy truck.

22 is pretty avg for the 2.3 I think. My dad has a 2.3 OHV 5 spd and hes getting about 20mpg.

I have a serious problem with my 95 ranger 4.0 v6.. Im getting about 4mpg city and 9mpg highway.. I just bought the truck. I know it needs an alignment but its getting the worst gas mileage ive ever seen in any truck ive ever owned. the plugs look good.. no dummy lights on the dash.. no black in the tail tipe.. new cat front and back with new sensors...

any ideas?

22 mpg is about what I'm getting with my 2.5L as well. There are those who get better on here but it doesn't seem to be the norm.

Even with a malfunctioning thermostat and always running cold (150ish) I get an average 23mpg city/highway (2wd, auto). I would think it would be better with proper engine temperature.
Well, I hope it will be better.

I'm going to guess you have just started using the heater in your truck? If so, the a/c compressor will kick on and bog down your mpgs. I notice the same thing. I get ~27 mpg, except for recently when I have been using the heat in the mornings and mine has dropped to ~22mpg. Also, what pressure are your tires at?

You will get noticeably worse mileage when it is cold..really cold as in winter..same with anything. Other than that you can only keep your vehicle well maintained and not drive with a lead foot to maximize mileage. Even a Ford Ranger is a big un-aerodynamic thing compared to small econo cars. But look at the full size truck behemoths with their V-8's,10's....the Ranger is economic compared to them fuel cost wise. It will not get better..we only have fuel at the current prices because of this bad recession...recovery and economic boom will herald in never before seen fuel prices. Incredibly there has been a boom in gas sucking full sized truck and SUV sales by middle class income people in the past year. A few years from now there may be a hell of a lot of people regretting that choice.

You do seem to be one of the ones outside the "norm". Whatever it is, keep it up since it seems to be working!
