Exclamation Ticking sound in my engine!!

Ok so I have a 2.3L engine but when I drive it around I hear a sort of low ticking sound. I have a buddy who has the same problem with. His truck has a way louder ticking sound. The mechanic he took it to said his piston chipped off into his engine block and is just in there until it shoots out. So any help is appreciated I hope it's nothing to serious I can't afford a major overhaul. Thanks for any help you may give.

Could be valve "chatter", or just something as simple as your fuel injectors doing their job. You wouldn't be able to hear the injectors while driving at high RPM's and high speeds due to the road and engine noise. Valve chatter is very common in a 4 Cyl. Go to Wal-Mart and get some fuel injector cleaner and run through it. Helps eliminate all the noises, gets better fuel milage, and runs better afterwards. Seafoam is good too.

Ok thank you. I will run that and keep you posted. And yes I can't hear it at high speeds due to noise but I do hear it in second gear going 20 or so MPH.

You may need an oil change.....because the oil has be come thin over many miles. Thus will lead to hearing ticking or tapping usually.

I recently had an oil leak so Ford found iit and fixed it as well as replaced my oil and oil filter. And I just checked my oil and it is still reading clear and between full and low.

x2. May also try using additives to your oil to help clean gunk out too. HOWEVER!!! READ THE INSTRUCTIONS ON THE PRODUCT YOU BUY AND FOLLOW THEM. Otherwise you could end up with a very large paperweight of an engine.

Seafoam works wonders, I don't care what anyones says. LOL.

Good luck keep us posted.

Follow this link - http://www.seafoamsales.com

Its a 100% pure petroleum product used to clean internal fuel and oil system components. As a fuel system additive, Sea Foam will clean fuel injectors, clean carbon, gum and varnish deposits, add lubricity to fuel, stabilize fuel for 2 years and control moisture. As an oil system additive, Sea Foam controls moisture, gum, varnish and residue deposits.

Lol maybe I need the disclaimer that "I am not endorsed nor do I work for this company" lol no in all honesty this stuff is great. Expecially during the wintertime to get moisture out of your fuel, etc. I had O2 sensors stop working and ran this stuff through and it was fixed, that was two years ago and still havent had the check engine light come back on.

My oil was changed about 500 miles ago. And ok where can I find sea foam stuff? Do you also think it will help with the ticking? Because I recently got an oil change.

If its getting caused by dirty injectors etc and carbon buildup yes it will help. Advance auto has it, walmart, pretty much any major chain department store, its in the area with the oil / power steering fluid / cleaners / fuel stabalizers - general car section
