Default searching for vac leak....line to heater valve.

I have a PO171 code on my 2000 XLT 2.5 5-man. Was looking under the hood for cracked hose (vac leaks) and came across this small grey tube which is clipped to this black plastic housing.

Does anyone know what this is and/or if it should be hooked to something?

goes to heater control valve it is marked with an X, you'll find the fitting probably still on the valve

Maybe you're aware of this but you're also missing a vacuum plug on your throttle body. That would definitely cause some unmetered air issues.

excellent powers of observation Scott. yep I took the pic as I was in the process of repacing that particular hose.

wanted to close this one out by saying that the L-shaped fitting is on the back of the black heater control valve that Terry points to in the picture. not easy to find unless you know where it is or have a mirror and strong flashlight. Easy to fix though - I pulled the old fitting out, removed the old piece of hose that was stuck in it, pushed in the end of the remaining hose and reinstalled the fitting in the control valve. Now all is well and the earth is back to its normal 23 deg tilt :-) Thanks for the help......................
