2010 4 cylinder oil filter replacement for the engine...
If I was to remove just the oil filter and stick in a new one without draining oil from the drain plug how much oil would i have to add after screwing in a new oil filter to bring it back to full?

Kinda curious why you would do that in the first place. If there is actually a reason for that, which I can't even think of one, just check your level and add as needed.

X2 especially on a brand new truck. If it's time to change the oil then take it to the dealer as I'm sure if you bought it new, they have so many free oil changes. Unless you are doing it yourself.

Change your oil every time you change your oil filter!
You're only looking at $19.00 if you change it yourself.
If you suspect your oil filter is dirty then putting on a new filter will get it as dirty as the old one without the oil change. Nothing gained by doing this IMO.

If that is what you want to do, just remove the old one and fill the new oil filter with oil. It is in a vertical position, so you will not lose any oil when putting it on.

Run the engine and recheck, then top it off......too bad it is SOOOOO complicated.

He might be using extended mileage oils and there are a couple that I would trust to 10,000 miles but I personally wouldn't trust a standard oil filter more for than 5000 miles.

I would put fresh new oil in it. It should break in fine.
