It's now just above the top hole on the dipstick. Ford sure had the drain plug on tight! I had to use a rag on my wrench to put enough pressure on it to break it loose.
Thanks for everyones suggestions and comments.
Good to go. While you maybe could have left it..having taken some out will quit you worrying about it. When I was 16-17 a friend bought a used 350 Honda...we both had only motorcycles then. The 350 Honda's..2 cylinder..4 stroke..late 60's to mid 70's had a very long dipstick..at least 6-7 inches long...with low and high markings on the last inch of it. He phoned me up and told me his bike was running really bad. He had filled it with oil as you would many lawnmowers..up to seeing oil at the bottom of the hole the dipstick goes in! It probably had twice the oil it should have had..maybe even more. The local Honda dealer quickly confirmed every oil seal was blown and maybe even more damage done. So a slight overfill probably doesn't matter. But in extreme cases like that it sure does.

I almost started a "How Long Is Your Dipstick" thread but thought better not to. The first time I pulled the oil dipstick after my oil change I thought I had pulled the transmission dipstick as it was so long and floppy for a four banger.

I always check the level twice. First time, without cleaning the dipstick, and the second time after I cleaned it. If you got that overfilled level both times, just drain some of that oil so you have piece of mind.

If your wrench doesn't fit tight without a rag then I think you have the wrong wrench.............

I used a 13mm boxed end with a rag on the handle to protect my hand. It would be nice if the handle was longer though.

I don't think I would get my oil changed at that place again. That is if I ever had someone else change my oil. Not only do they overfill, but they also over tighten the drain plug? Probably didn't replace the filter and put in the wrong type of oil too.

I'm not!
I'll be doing my oil changes from now on.
I have read on the net about Ford dealerships oil being bulk, was pumped in their tank by a tanker truck and could be any brand other than Ford. I asked the service desk guy if it was indeed Motorcraft oil and he seemed ticked about me asking so it must be true.

Their filters are bulk as well. I started to mark the filter with a sharpie to make sure they changed it but I requested my old filter instead.

I've changed the oil on the 2 Rangers i've had in the past 17 years. Since I do it myself..I've always used full synthetics..mostly Mobil 1..recently switched to Royal Purple..figuring the money I saved on labor offsets the cost of the better oil. The only thing with changing fluids of all kinds yourself is getting rid of it properly. You probably have the same in the states as here,..regarding big auto parts stores that do such. Here we have Canadian Tire (and some others)..CDN Tire is an old chain..great place...women don't think so because they always have things on sale...sometimes as much as 70% off...so a guy goes in there for 4 liters of oil..and leaves with that and a bunch of other stuff..mostly tools on sale he may never use. I know because I do that myself!!!..talk to other guys..same thing. Anyways the big multi-bay service department is a revolving door of 'mechanics'...I wouldn't let them change a tire..certainly not my oil. It's nice how they started putting oil in 4.(?)L big containers some years ago..they are a perfect fill for the 4.0 and many other motors. Also see the thread about the toilet paper filter posted somewhere here at FRF? If you can find it..read it all. Full synthetic plus that may be a way to help a motor that is still in good shape last a very long time.
