Default Fuel Mileage Question

Ive got a 2003 Ranger XLT with a 2.3 and ive noticed that im only getting between 260 to 280 miles out of a full tank of gas. I drive mostly highway and interstate going to and from work and was wondering if this was about normal or if I should be getting more than that.

You have either have the 16.5 gal (Reg cab) or the 19.5 gal (Ext. cab) You definitely don't have the 20 gal as that only came with the long box which only came with the 3.0 V6. Those are estimated at just over 300, so yeah, you should be getting a lot more with the 2.3L.

Do this...

See how many miles you get divided by the gallons of gas you get in one whole trip....

Like 280 miles/12 gallons=23.3 mpg

What gears do you have? Are you running bigger tires? Either of these can greatly effect mileage. With bigger tires, not only actual mileage suffers, but your calculations will be off mathematically. Your odometer will be showing less miles than you have actually traveled.

cleaning your IACV, TB and MAF is always a good idea, however before you go replacing any parts.........get the codes read

Had the codes checked today and its saying there is a misfire in the #1 cylinder under 1000rpm's and thats its running to lean. So im pretty sure its not the IAC now.
