Thumbs up 2.5l performance cylinder head

Hey y'all, not sure if this the right section, but with my current cylinder head jacked up I figure I'd entertain the idea of purchasing a performance cylinder head. Can y'all direct me in the right direction, with a ballpark on pricing and what else would be necessary to replace for it to run in optimal condition. Also, is there a power programmer available for 98-00 2.5l rangers? Thx in advance.

try Esslinger or Racer Walsh for engine parts
i've seen heads go for $1200 up to $5000 for all aluminum head, race valves and cam

if you do get an aftermarket head, you will need a programmer to tune you ECM for it

try SCT or Bamachips

a cheaper route would be a junkyard head.....take it to a machine shop to have it checked and while its there....have them tweak it
port it....bigger valves....the works

i had the head on my 87 2.3l redone for about $500....but they installed a cam and everything...so it may be a bit cheaper just for a port and polish

I'll be watching with interest but I don't think such a part exists concerning the head.

Supposedly there are some programmers you can get off ebay but I haven't verified if this is true or not.

Esslinger and have full aluminum race heads or ported and polished cast heads

Esslingers head does not work well on a street truck,too big of ports and valves and they don't flow very well at low rpm,s.You also have to run a carb intake as the FI manifold does not fit.Take your steel head and get it shaved 30-40 and some good porting done(a word of warning,the port walls are quite thin in by the radius)There are a couple jet chips on ebay right now,$250

Thanks guys for everything so far...geez though, if those heads cost 1200 I might as well do the 2.3t swap LOL speaking of which, what else would be necessary if I decided to go the route of going to the remanufactured engine route? I can't consider a junkyard engine because they just don't exist around here where I live. I really don't want to shell out that money in the first place unless I absolutely have to...decisions decisions...

$1200 for a bare Esslinger's head.Cheaper to get your engine rebuild if you have the time.A reman is about $1700 depending on where you get it(Napa,Carquest etc).but will get you back on the road in a few days.Few remans on ebay,a couple take outs but have to be careful of the yard that pulls them.

Well I saw a few sites that have reman 2.3ts on there for about 1100 and to me if it costed that much for the head I might as well put in a half-decent engine instead. The question is if I went this route with a reman engine, what else would I need to do the swap? I assume the engine doesn't come fully dressed

You might have a whole bunch of connection issues if you change engines. I haven't looked, so I don't know. See if there are any threads about swapping engines other than V-8s. There might be something there.

If you go with a rebuilt engine, whatever you need you can take off the old engine. I did that with the junk yard engine I have in my truck now.

for a 2.5l motor the 2.5 head is the only thing you can use. the intake an block is different then the old lima motors an dont bolt up. the 2.5l head has 1 of the best flowing heads . it is a 60cc head. 1.89/1.59 valves is all you can get for it an you have to buy them from bo port as he is the only 1 that sells them with a 7mm stem.

Any of the 2.3 heads after 95 bolt right up,all the same intake and hookups.Only difference in the motors are a longer stroke in the 2.5,s
