Default EGR Exhuast tube Fitting size

I need to remove my EGR on a '96 2.3. to inspect and clean it and need to R&R the the fuel injectors also. Been trying to remove the exhaust up-tube 1 1/16th feels just a hair too big and a 24mm is too small. I'm sure a few folks have had to do this and might remember what size open / box wrench they had to use.

been to the local parts house here in town,(3), nothing over a 24mm. Mama's in Eureka doing xmas shopping, stop Sears and pick up a 25-26-27-28mm wrenches............

Wish I could, not enough room between the firewall and the EGR itself. Can get a open end wrench in there to remove and tighten it. It been on there since '96, so it's a wee bit cooked in there, been tippin it after I spray pentraiting oil when it's hot and it appears that the corners might round out using a 1 1/6". Has to be a 25-26mm Iguess.

I'm also thinking to swap out the fuel injectors as well so I need to get this squared away so I can R&R the upper intake...........

When I worked on mine, the engine was out of the bay, so I can't help much. I used adjustable wrenches though.

I'm confused though. If you want to clean the valve, why do you need to remove the whole line? Just undo the connection at the valve and pull the two bolts holding the valve in place. Just make sure you thread the tube back on first before bolting the valve to the engine. It was the only way I could get everything back together.

That's what I'm trying to do, remove the fitting at the EGR valve. just cramped quarters. I've tried to gat a vaneer caliper in to get a sizing of the fitting but there's not enough room to get a good reading. I can get a open end wrench in there, matter a fact mama picked me up a 27mm open end at Sears in Eureka and it's the same size as a 1 1/16th. So it has to be a 25-26mm, I hope..............

I should add that I was able to get the calipers on the header end of the EGR tube and it read at 1 1/16, put it aginst the open end, a lil hairline gap. but this caliper is the ruler type not digital. So it gets you in the ballpark. Still add pressure to a cooked on fitting, could round corners then I would be SOL for sure.........

Well it is a 27mm for the EGR tube fitting behind the EGR valve. Still can't get it to bdge though. Going to have to use a cheater.
