Default Increased fuel economy?

Hey, I have a 2003 ford xlt ranger , manual, 2.3L.

The 4cyl. Engine gets pretty good gas mileage as is but I was wondering if anyone has done anything to get even better mileage?

Only maintnence, making sure all is in tip top shape, and drive it easy shifting around 2000 to 2500 rpms. Do stuff kike spark plugs, wires, cleaning various sensores such as maf and iac, no check engine lights, properly inflated tires, shed unessersary weight, having the heat on floor and face runs the comresser, so put it on just floor or vent, unless you need to dehumidify the cab. I think thats pretty much it thats worth while, and a clean air filter.

Maf is just past your air filter, you take it oof and clean it with mass air flow sensore cleaner. IAC is somewhere around the exhaust side I believe near the firewall, you take it off and I thinkyou can use carb cleaner on it, but its been awhike semce ive done it. Just search the forum and/or google how to do it with better details than what I gave you, or someine else may chime in.

Other than these things the best way to get better MPG is to change your driving habits. I had a saturn that I would avg 32mpg in and when I changed my driving habits I was able to get into the 38mpg range consistently.

My top two driving tips for better MPG:
1) Don't drive over 60mph, ever. Get in the slow lane and cruise.
2) The brake pedal is your waste gas pedal. Optimize your driving habits to use the brake pedal as little as possible.

Do these two things and you'll see fuel economy improvements guaranteed.

Hey, I was looking the other day and I guy I bought it from left the original window sticker in the glove box. On the sticker it said my truck has an optional 3.73(I think ) rear end gear. Is it actually a optional rear gear or are they all that way?

Unless you really don't care at all about power, I wouldn't change that either if your thinking about it. I know my 2.5 with 3.73 was ok on power, and the newer 2.3 only has a little more power but im sure its noticeable. #.73s is a good compromise between mpg and power. My 5.8 f150, however, does just fine with 3.55s lol.
