that's a nice write up stl but may i make the comment that when working under the hood like that, the first step i'd take is un hook the battery then start the tast in hand. it's been my luck in the past to forget and bump something and pow the battery reminds me it's still hooked up..

And STL, my friend is a whiz with old chev pickups so hopefully he'll be ok to help with mine.

to test the dist. u cant take the neg. cable off

Hey STL, can you clarify what you mean by "bump" the starter?

Hey didnt think about this till today if your dist. has a IAC (TFI module in illustration posted above) may wanna check and clean that maybe your problem

Is the TFI module located on the inside of the distributor? Do I have to follow the instructions provided to check on it?

Hey folks, so I replaced the TFI module today and it wasn't the problem. Next up I'll have to change the distributor.
I read that distributors are only really good for the first 100,000 miles and my truck has 230,000 km on it.
