Default camshaft sensor

Have a 2000 Ranger with a 2.5 engine keep getting a po340 diagnostic code which is a camshaft position sensor, question is where is the camshaft position sensor?

It's on the oil pump it think. www.newfordparts.com has illustrations that might help on the location better but I'm pretty sure it's on the pump some where.

According to my local auto repair shop it's behind the timing belt cover
and that if I haven't changed the timing belt that I might as well do that while they have the cover off. I think he said that it would cost about $125 for the sensor with labor and around 200 with the timing belt sound like a pretty good price?

Had the camshaft position sensor replaced still the same problem check engine light still on, they tell me it needs a pcm power control module and it will cost me between $300 to $600 the truck runs fine all the gauges read good. I'm thinking of just letting it go till it quits or until the check engine light bulb burns out.

This may sound like a stupid question, but type of spark plugs are you running? Waste spark systems sometimes track the wasted spark voltage and duration to calculate crankshaft and camshaft poitions mathmatically and with single sided platinium plugs they will get a funky signal which the computer interprets as cam. pos. sensor issue. This issue actually quite common on the Saturn S-Series.

Had the spark plugs changed about 4 years ago at a Ford dealer I would assume they put the same kind in as it had besides haven't had this problem till just recently. had this truck 10 years since it was new put and alternator on it about a year ago and a fuel pump about a month ago. just service it regularly haven't had many problems. but this has me puzzled.
