Missing oil

My 04 2.3L, 120K...shes going thu about 1qt of oil every 1200 miles. I thought that it was a bad pcv, so I replaced it(the old pcv was stuck open). Still losing oil. No leaks what so ever.
Did a compresson check on it. If I remember right it was 200psi in all 4.

Truck runs good but has lost some power going up hills. Any ideas? Id love to not have to dump a qt of oil in her ever 1000 miles...

is it burning off? do you have any blue smoke or anything like that? It's gotta be burning off or leaking somewhere. right?

Its gotta be burning it is all I can think. But I don't get any blue smoke that I can see. When I cold start up in the morning I get some white smoke till it warms up then nothing...

I park in a nice coverd shop and have no oil spots on the floor..AKA a clean floor.

I don't know..Bad vavle??

I am having the same problem with my 04, 146k miles. Runs gr8, getting about 15.5-16 mpg in the city. Hoping it is nothing major. No leaks in parking spot. No burning smell and no blue or dark smoke. Where is a good place to start trouble shooting. Is compression check the best first thing to do? Not trying to highjack you post, just thought we could both get some answers. I'm a mechanical novice and a noob to the Ranger.

I have heard that folks with "experienced" engines can have some success in reducing oil consumption by changing from the 5W-20 or 10W-30 to a heavier oil like 10W-40 or 20W-50.

Don't go hog wild, especially with cooler weather coming. I had a Crown Vic w/ 5.0L and ran 15W-40 in it. It was fine down to about 20 degrees. Below that and it was difficult to start. It HAD to catch on the first crank or it was all done.

Try it. Sure isn't going to hurt anything going through that much. Or just go with one of the oils for high mileage engines. They are supposed to be made just for that.

I would NOT go with cheap store brand oils or re-manufactured products. Name brands or premium brands.

It is meant to be a closed system, changing weights outside manufatcter's specs means there is something wrong. A little oil loss is not uncommon but a quart every 1000 miles hmm...how many miles you driving a year or month?
