For what it's worth, I have a 95 2.3 with a 5 speed. 35x12.50-15 Mastercraft Courser MT tires on 10 inch wide wheels, 4x4, Large Rhino Grill Guard, Diamond plate toolbox with tools and spare parts, 4.56 gears in the axles, 4 inch suspension lift, EGR valve Mod, K&N Air filter, Air pipe mod, Removed air muffler and replaced with stainless pipe, New plugs and wires, 232,000 miles, and I am averaging 16-17 mpg very consistently. To say the least I am very pleased!

Just thought I'd post the results of trying the Coil mod on the 2.3. At first my mileage dived for the first half of a full tank but when I ran the second tank through definitely saw improvement averaging 8-10 miles more than usual for every quarter mark on the gauge and in the end about 30 miles farthwer on a full tank. I am quite pleased with this mod even though I had doubted it at first.

Be alert on synthetic oil upgrading... especially if your vehicle has miles on it already... It can easily start leaks around old seals. It does lower friction an contribute to more HP and better mpg... my fav is Royal Purple.

I have been getting about 16-17 MPG around town on my 98 XLT 2.5L 5-speed. This seems like it as low for what I should be getting. Is there anything I can do to get some more miles out of it?

I suppose they are for other components or add-ons. Anyway, I used one of them to add a small warm air intake. I put a filter in it and I swear I'm at least 20% better on MPG. It must have tricked the MAS successfully and maybe even the upstream O2 sensor. The truck is noticeably underpowered, but not that bad. I have adjusted my driving style to accomodate the power loss and desired fuel savings. In other words I drive slower and I'm ok with it. I'll get some pictures up soon. I used to use right about 1/4 tank to go to work and back, now I'm using around 1/6. I'm going to have to do an actual mpg study on it to see where I am, but really, it's made a big difference.
Actually this is a common trick in restrictor plate and bone stock racing, hiding a secondary air intake to get by the techs. I would not do it on my own truck, but I certianly would not tell anyone what they should do with theirs and would be interested in actual results just out of curiousity.

Sometimes thinking out of the box works, and if no one ever thought out of the box we would still be driving Mustangs, with four legs. I built a 674 fwhp 1.8 liter Miata motor, and there were many people that told me it could not be done. $17K later I did it.

My business is based on doing things that others say can not be done, so I tend to have a more open mind I suppose. One can always learn something from failure as well as sucess.

Damn! I drive an automatic so its hard to keep it under 2500, always takes a bit more to shift through. I also drive 80 on the interstate 2 days a week (there and back in the same day) for an hour for school. I have the 4.0 and I get 18 if I am really good and do 70 but they jacked up the speed limit to 75 now and 71 was my hot spot. Will the intake, tunerchip, and exhaust do a great amount for me?
