Each time I fill up. I write down the total gallons, total cost, current odometer reading. I have 8764 miles on my truck now. I added up the total gallons & divided the 8764 miles by the gallons. I have averaged 28.7 MPG so far.

Pretty good concidering it is rated at 21 city & 26 hiway.

I've been getting 28.1 - 28.7 lately and best ever was 29.0 with driving mainly being 75% highway. Not bad for an automatic, but will probably get a Scangauge II just to see if I can get 30+

The Scan gauge is awesome. I have one. It really helps you improve your driving habbits. The winter milage runs between 21 & 25 MPG. The rest of the time it runs between 30 to 34 MPG. my best is 36MPG.
I am trying to beat it.
A great website for getting the most out if your vehicle MPG wise. www.cleanmpg.com. They also sell the Scangauge discounted to forum members

Speaking of tire size. Mine are 15in. steel wheels. I have thought of getting some 94-95 Ranger 14in aluminum rims for the lighter weight. Running the smaller tire should save some weight also. Wonder if I could pick up 3-5MPG doing that..

Things that make ya go Hmmmmm.

I have it set to watch average MPG, Instant MPG, TPS (throttle position sensor) & MPR.

Watching the throttle position & the instant MPG are the 2 big ones in being able to max out your milage.

I'll have to set mine up for the throttle. Guess I've never had it on the screen before, is there a # or range you shooting for?

TPS: mine idles at 16. Arround town at about the 35MPH range I try to keep it at 18 - 19. On the highway at 60ish MPH I try to keep it between 19 - 21. Of course hills take it out of that range during the climb & desent.
