Default double plug 2.3?

I had some mechanic at my work take a look at my truck and told me that I have a double plug 2.3 or 8 spark plugs. I know I only have four (4 banger) and I just changed them a month ago but I'm wondering if somebody can clear this up for me because I don't under what the guy is talking about haha.

There are 4 on the exhaust side which are there for emission purposes no need to really change them

There are 4 on the intake side which are the ones u should change on a normal basis

what he said. But with one modification, on the older ones, I'm not sure which year it started, but the only had 4 plugs. The second set of plugs were added in later years to meet emissions restrictions. On an '83, I'm pretty sure you only have 4 plugs.
