the expansion tank will gravity fill the radiator once its full start up the truck to bleed any air out and then top off.

The duratecs cap is on the plastic tank........no cap on radiator. Unlike all the other "overflow" tanks, this one is under pressure.

So how do you flush the system with these duratecs w/o radiators caps? Would I just remove the cap on the coolant reservoir? Is it just like STL said? Fill the reservoir and use gravity for it to flow into the radiator?

You gotta just drain the coolant from the bottom of the radiator and from the block then refill through the res tank.

sorry for reviving an old thread, but I am going to be replacing my radiator next weekend (the one in my truck sprung a small leak).

please clarify, since there is no cap on the radiator, do I just remove the cap on the reservoir and open the drain plug?

then, when refilling, how do you know when its full?

The Ford quick service places use a machine for a flush and refill. That's what I did last year at 36,000 miles. $70 every 3 years is very reasonable.

reviving thread, supposedly you can't refill the rad without the use of a vacuum machine. which cost me 90 bucks last time. Couldnt I start my engine open my rad pet**** and cap on resevoir. wouldnt the resevoir empty and I could keep topping off with fresh coolant????? any other ideas to keep me from spending 90 bucks.

Drain it from bottom. Run distilled water through it, disconnect hoses, drain. Reconnect everything and refill.
