Default Help Identify a Part

See attached picture, not my truck btw. I put a white arrow towards a black cover that sits inbetween the battery and the cover that says 2.3L 16 Valve.

My truck doesn't have that cover, but there is an aluminum bracket, a fairly hefty one, in that area with nothing attached to it. What am I missing?

Part of the air intake system if I remember correctly its like a silencer or something that was removed on later models while the bracket remained. My 03 has the box. Should run fine without it of coarse.

Here are some better pics, the one with the cover is the 2002 version, without is a 2004. I think it was a mid-year change in 2003 So, that is cool if they made a change and it doesn't need it!

Yeah, I see they do connect into the air intake now, my tube has those 2 holes on the right side of the intake tube, but they are actually molded in closed. At first I was thinking they were capped but I just double checked and they changed the mold and sealed them off. I suppose they left the aluminum bracket because the power steering pump is attached to it.

I think they made some other changes mid-year in 2003 as there are 2 fuel filters for that year as well. Mine ended up being the later version, after I got home with the early one and noticed it was different.

Mine was built 2-03.

I plan on tossing the stock tube for an alumnium, for shows mostly and to clean up room in bay. I hoped to scrap the bracket too, but I dnt think itsposible, though my ps pump is attacked near radiator.

There is another thread about this. And that bracket does hold a silencer box/plenum that is attached to the intake tube. I could take a pic under the hood of my '01 if you need proof.

By the way, do you know the part number for the intake tube without the silencer?

this it what i did on my old 01

I plugged the "air silencers" off the intake, and moved the power steering reservoir to the bracket
