Need help with my '97 ranger
Hi, I have a problem with my 97 ranger that i'm hoping someone on this forum can help me fix. the engine is a 2.3 litter and it barley runs. you have to floor it just to get the rpm's up. when i'm taking off in first it almost stalls unless i feather the clutch. there is no engine light on either . so i am guessing there would be no codes if i took it to the dealer. i am guessing it is a problem with a sensor. there is a wire going to a sensor in the air intake right before the throttle body. when i disconnect it nothing changes. could this be the problem? does anyone know what sensor that is? any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Need help with my '97 ranger
there still could be a code but prob not since there arent any lights on. i would check for fuel related problems first. fuel filter, injectors, pump, etc. how many miles are on the truck? and has it been doing this for awhile? or did it just all of a sudden happen?

Re: Need help with my '97 ranger
My son just bought it from an auction that way(dummy ). I've had the fuel line off and it seems to have lots of pressure. Plugs and wires are all good. I have checked everything i know how to. maybe its time to go to the mechanic. lol. oh there are 120000 miles on the truck.

Re: Need help with my '97 ranger
the sensor in the intake is just an air temp sensor...it wouldn't cause a major problem
i'm thinking loose throttle cable.....
does it idle smooth?
grab the throttle on the throttle body and rev it by hand....any difference?

agreed..you need to change the FF and then do a pressure test koeo, how many cycles to get up,koer how much does it drop in 5 minutes after the truck is off. also pull the vauum line off of the fuel pressure reg and make sure there is no fuel in it......also make sure it has good gas in the tank!!!!!!

ditto on the sensor aka "air charge senosr"..........I doubt it is the cable but see if you can rev the engine right at the TB.

Re: Need help with my '97 ranger
Stupid question maybe....whats the air filter look like? Is it clean...or dirty...also Fuel filter change for sure. And what about the exhaust...any restrictions? And don't say the catalytic converter lol unless its actually plugged
