Default changing tranny fluid

i have a 2002 ranger xl 5speed manual tranny and ive never changed it on my own it definitely needs it tho. i know theres no dipstick in it. i just need to know how to do it step by step

There are two plugs, one above the other. The upper is the fill hole, the lower the drain hole.

Remove the fill hole first because if you can't get it off and you pull the drain plug, you are stuck.

Check your owner's manual for the proper fluid and how much you'll need. Mine uses Mercon. Mercon/Dextron will work, so will Mercon V if you go to the dealer.

Basically, you drain the tranmission and put the drain plug back in. Fill the transmission until it starts dripping out of the top hole. Install the fill plug. That's it.

One of those clear plastic tubes with a shut off valve that will screw on the bottle will help a lot. Auto parts stores sell them for something like $8.

+1..........you can get 3 feet of hose and a funnel and fill it thru the engine bay..otherwise you need a pump takes about 3 quarts
