I've been having trouble wit my 98 egr. I bought a new one and the check engine light came back on. Now the code reads egr flow. Any idea where the clog could be?

Either the tube behind the engine that connects to the exhaust manifold is clogged or the block shaped sensor on the passenger side of the engine is the problem. It could be that one of those rubber hoses leading from the tube to the sensor is bad.

I just had somewhat of the same problem, and from what I read and did was replace the dpfe sensor. From what i was told and read again, they said that this sensor gets clogged or goes bad, creating bad information. I replaced it (about $45-50) and my check engine light has not gone on since.

unless you want to drive around your farm in Iowa or you get a tingly feeling in your groin at the idea of being harassed by the government I would just fix the problem

most states do not even do inspections... My egr is deleted on my diesel... and when I did that it miraculously got better mpgs and ran better... If you are looking to replace it with fomoco parts look at partsguyed.com he can give you some help on prices

most states that do inspections don't test for emissions on diesels(although they are starting to)..........I guess my point is that it much easier to just fix the thing the way it is supposed to be. imho.....but the OP should do what ever lights his fire....and my joke about the iowa farm was suppose to mean that if you live in the sticks or a backwards state then you can get away with in. I live in Massachusetts and could never get away with it.

Well...its mainly the politics that determines the testing... Those leaning to the left usually have testing and those leaning to the right don't...its not about the being country aspect its mainly a political standpoint

I have the same problem with my 2.3. I replaced the EGR, and all the sensors, went in with the cpu, cleared the code, and the check engine light came back on, I'm thinking the hose to the exhaust manifold is clogged up with carbon. Anyone got any ideas?

I had this same experience, I changed my gnarly fuel filter(while the bat. was disconnected) and the code never came back.
