Default The easiest way to change fuel float?

Take the whole bed off or just drop fuel tank down up under the truck? My fuel gauge does not work and really want to fix it as it works sometimes.Had a friend that said his done the same thing and he said it was the float with a little pin hole in it and it would fill up with fuel in the float.I have checked all the fuses,etc...

Hi if I were u I would drive ur truck until the gas is low in the tank. Check it by tapping it with something. If it sounds very hollow then it should be good to start ur project. Now u should be able to undo the straps and drop the tank by yourself but make sure all the wire harnesses and lines are disconnected that will bind up in removal. That is the easiest way takn the box off would require more man power and more time consuming.

its easier to remove the bed than to drop the tank, by the age of your truck the straps will be a bitch to remove and removing the bed allows you to test your repair before you put everything back together also, its alot harder to do that when you drop the tank. i had the same problem in my old 86 ranger, float got holes in it. i drained the float and soldered the holes shut.

I would take the bed off torx 55, 3 7mm bolts at the gas cap, disconnect the light connecter at the bumper. I replaced my bolts with regular hexhead bolts. I also would replace the sock at the bottom of the tank.
