Default 89 2.3 range leaks oil (like the gulf o' mexico)

I believe my rear main is leaking, because as of when i just parked my truck, it's a nice almost solid stream coming out between the engine and the trans.

The important question;
Can i replace the rear main without pulling the motor if i drop the pan?

if not, if i work without breaks, do you think i could (starting now), have the truck done by monday morning for school.

also, anything else i should do while it's out, if i have to? mind you this needs to be done by monday morning.

thanks in advance to all of you.

so the motor's getting pulled, and i'm re-doing every and all gaskets.

are ANY of the studs/ bolts torque to yield? i've had massive problems with TTY bolts, and would like to know in advance if any are, and which they are so i can replace them and not have problems. this is my DD, and i'm dependant on it. thanks in advance guys.

I am a little lost on this one, I thought you said the rear main seal is leaking. You have to pull the transmission to get to the rear main. I never heard of anyone pulling an 2.3L Lima engine just to change a rear main seal. Nothing like making it 10 times more difficult than it should be. Took me and my son 2.5 hours to pull the tranny and replace the seal on a 1997 2.3 ranger with an automatic.........2.25 hrs to lower tranny and 15 minutes to replace the seal itself. If you have the right tools, it's easy.

'meant to say if i drop the trans. i'm an idiot more often than not. anyway, engine got dropped back in (fuckin finally) tonight, everything needs connected tomorrow, and it was the valve cover gasket/ oil pan gasket/ headgasket, so we replaced all of those, and the rear main.

It's great that you replaced all those....especially the valve cover gasket!
