Unhappy Need firing order for four cylinder

Guys,
I have a 1998 Ford Ranger. A four cylinder with the eight plugs.
I have had trouble recently with it running.
Most of the time I can not get the engine over 3000 rpm and I'm beside myself as to how to fix it!
I've put in new plugs and plug wires. I replaced a coil pack that had a hole in it and replaced the fuel filter.
Again, I'm no mechanic, but, fellas, what else should I check(I'm thinking of draining the gas tank and checking the fuel pump, that make sense?).
Any suggestions???
Also, can somebody tell me where to find the spark plug firing order...thanks in advance

Yes, the 'Check Engine' light is on and I have a blown doughnut gasket...can back-pressure effect the rough running?
Guys, I honestly do appreciate your all's help!

When you say you'd like to drain the tank and check the fuel pump do you mean check the pick up prefilter sock? Just find out what your fuel pressure should be and test your fuel pressure.

That donut gasket could effect your EGR and maybe bump the operating temp up a bit or even destabilize combustion. I do not fully understand the symptom about the RPM's.

You should create a detailed sig/profile of your truck like MINE

for us to help you the best we can we need details. if you have the "means" you should get a codereader/scanner=starts at $30. a fuel pressure tester starts at$20

read the codes and post the actual #'s here, do a detailed fuel pressure test and post the results here

I am not sure what you mean buy a donut gasket. is it the gasket between the cat and the exhaust pipe?

Getting it above 3000Rpms... Is this in nutural/Park or actually on the highway in drive and moving?

If you are trying to race the engine while the transmission is in park or nutural the Rev Limiter is dropped down to 3000Rpms where it will act just like a speed limiter.

If you mean on the highway... Clogged Cat converter anybody?
