What mileage should I replace my timing belt. I bought the truck at 85.000 miles and now it's at 91,000. I'm not sure if it's been replaced before but should i do it again to be safe?

Your vehicle has a timing chain which does not have a mileage interval for
replacement. Normally you would not need to replace the timing chain unless
a failure occurs.

that is a bullshit answer. do you know if your engine is an interference engine? i know my 4.0 is im not sure about the 3.0's but if it is and it breaks then engine is toast. so when he said you wouldn't have to replace it if a failure has occur means your replacing the whole engine. i have went through that all ready. mine broke on me in the middle of rush our with a 5 mile back up trying to get through a tunnel ill never forget that day.

i remember someone saying if it breaks it will cause the whole engine to fail. now im definatley going to replace it haha

If you are driving down the road and it snaps. The valves (in the dead) will bend and break. Causing a kinds of problems.

Happened to my sister in law. She was going 10-15mph and she bent a valve. The damage was minimal. The faster you are going the worst it can be.

Ford is not the only mfr that makes an interference engine w/ a timing belt. Response from Ford was right since it pertained to a timing chained 3.0L Vulcan engine.

Not sure exactly what the timing belt interval is, but better safe than sorry. It's one of those things that are good to know how old it is, I would recommend replacement. Keep up on it and the 2.3L OHC engine can last a VERY long time.

Mine broke last week. Hauled it home, replaced the belt last night, runs fine. Thank God.

If anyone needs any help, let me know. It was a painful process, but after doing it once, I can probably knock it out in just a few hours now.

the 4cyl engine is a belt and not a chain but ive been lead to believe that neither four cylinder engine has an interference head. correct me if im wrong
