I have a ’95 (over 200,000 miles) that has 2 issues I need help with. One is that when I let off the gas I get a rumbling noise from the back end. As soon as I step back on the gas it goes away. However if I get back on the gas too hard I get a clunking noise first then the rumbling stops. The other issue is when shifting, especially in low gears, if I let off the clutch too fast there is a loud clunk from the rear end. Other than that, the truck starts and runs great. I’m no mechanical wiz I just wonder if its worth sticking the money into it.

noise from the rear end is usually a U-joint. The "on the gas off the gas" coorelation can be putting a load on the drive shaft and taking it off the drive shaft. Get under the truck and grab the drive shaft right in front of the differential and shake it . If it clunks and moves around, the U-joint is busted.
