Timing of 2.3L

Hello all. I searched around forums but couldn;t find anything like this problem.

I have a 92 ranger 2.3l 5-speed. Been doing some work on it. Wife had been driving it mostly but when i got in it it would hesitate when taking off from a stop and in low rpms shifting gears.

It sounded rough like a engine does and sure enough it is 23 btc. Figuring the wife stalled it and jumped the belt. So I switched the belt since I had no clue how old the one on there was. Also replaced the cam, crank and aux shaft seals. Plugs and wires are good as well.

All said, done and back together i still have the same problem. So I go get the obd codes pulled. I had a #39- transaxle problem but it's not four wheel drive (???) and #53 TPS out of range.

So i spring $25 for a new tps. The idle is a bit smoother but still have hesitation and the timing is still 23 btc.

So with you guys knowing as much as I know. What else can i check? Looked around but can't find info onhow to check crank position sensor, that bastahd cost $150, so need to check it before i go buy it.

im not too sure but free bump!! because i had a question for you..lol you said you repalced the crank seal...did you have to pull the motor to do it...and if not how did you do it? my front crank seal is leakin a lil but didnt wanna pull motor to do it.

didn;t remove motor. just fan and shroud, crank pulley, balancer and timing belt sprocket and whatever else is involved in a timing belt change out. there is a assembly (for lack of a better word) that the seal goes in that also seals to the front of the oil pan.

I ended up taking that off that assembly redoing all hte gasket and reinstalling. Then pressing in the seal. I tried once with the seal in but couldn;t get the new gasket to the assembly to quit moving and ended tearing the crank seal. leaving the crank seal out left a little room to set it back on the oil pan.

I pressed the new seal in by cutting a piece of 2" PVC pipe to about 6" long or so to push against the seal and using a long 2x4 to push on the PVC using the sway bar as a fulcrum point (think 2nd class lever if you don;t get what i'm typing).

hope that helps and wish i had pic's, they always help. There is a trick posted somewhere about using drywall screws to pull out the seal if you don;t remove the "assembly".

My timing issue.... I'm just gonna throw the truck in the shop and let a mechanic figure out my problem. to hot right now to be f-ing with it and nobody seems to know here.
