Default 2.3L Gearing question

I have 30 inch tires with a 2.3L 4-cyl engine. It is 2wd and has a 3.73 gear ratio. I get 22-24 mpg but it has no power in 4th or 5 gear if the tack is below 2800 rpm. I want more power but I don't want to sacrifice the mpg is this the best ratio for my truck?

you might want to look into 4.10s.....the duratech motors love RPMs
so their sweet spot is around 2500-2800 RPMs for the best fuel economy

i've got 29.5 inch tires with 3.55 gears......i actually get better gas mileage in 4th gear at 70 mph than i do in 5th gear. my 4th gear cruises at around 2500 rpm at 70 while 5th gear cruises around 2200 rpm

but i also have a completely different motor......

How many miles are on your 2.3l and is it a auto or a stick? Im gonna guess stick since its got 3.73's

I have a 03 as well with 30x9.5 tires and steel 15x8 crager rims coming in at about 60 lbs per wheel and tire give a few extra...
And I run right at 3 grand at 75 mph on the highway in fifth gear and average 28mpg highway...
In town I average 22 due to having a heavy foot...
my truck seems to have good power in 4th gear for passing and it has enough power to cruise in 5th without having it floored all the time...

So...You may wanna try a few other things like cleaning the upper intake tube and sensors..and maybe a tune up depending on how many miles are on it ...before you go dropping money on gears..

They wouldn't do anything but lighten your wallet.....
Trndassassin was on the right track....look into getting a tune up...gears are not your problem
