Default This truck I tell you...

Well my Ranger is having a major issue. Its a 97 2.3L 5 speed. Okay heres the deal, I went to go somewhere and it started up and ran fine. Got maybe 2 miles away from the house and it started missing, backfiring and stalling out. I thought it was maybe running out of gas so I put gas in. Same thing. Its misfiring really bad and backfiring thru the intake which indicates timing. It will not idle. If you start it up, you have to put ur foot to the floor to keep it running. The check engine light came on and was flashing after a little bit so I'm thinking it detected a misfire. Now it won't turn off. I have no way to check it for codes as I won't drive it anywhere. I'm thinking the coilpacks may have gone as they are original. Oh yeah, the truck does have 162k on it and im pretty sure nothing has really been replaced. I'm really not sure what to replace as I really don't feel like throwing parts at it. Maybe the control module as well? Could a bad crank sensor cause the same thing? Its either that or maybe the timing belt jumped? Beyond that I have no clue. Any help would be appreciated.

Well I figured it out lol. I can't believe I didn't check this first. The intake tube came off and caused all the above issues. I did test the coilpack with a timing light and it does have a slight misfire on all cylinders. So I think I will replace it anyways. Explains a lot though.

Lol you guys would laugh at my truck. No just kidding. Its still in project mode plus last weekend someone broke into it and stole the radio and damaged the passenger side door lock so I gotta fix that. Damn thieves. Aside from that, I would if I didn't have plans that day. Should let me know when the next meet is and Ill show up.

Ya thats exactly what they did to mine. It's really a nice truck. How often do these meets happen? I wouldn't be able to make it this time around, but I would love to go to another one. Ya I have a 97 Red Stepside. Been a good little truck. I couldn't believe they took the radio and didn't take the remote lol. The radio was like 5 years old, and the CD player didn't work, and you couldn't turn it up or down without the remote as the volume control didn't work on the player its self. I was like yah ur bright. They took all of my burnt CDs that were in the visor and I was like yah cuz I can't make more lol. Then they took the Ranger owners manuals along with the registration and proof of insurance. Got it all covered and all with the DMV so its all good. I could care less about the radio, but I was soo mad about them damaging my truck. But yeah let me know when there is another meet and Ill sure show up.

Dang, I wish I could make it. Well there is always next year but I will most likely go to one in Centraila. It would be cool to go and check out the other cool trucks around.

Run water through the engine. It'll clear it right up.

Ya it was the intake tubing that was disconnected and it was acting up like you wouldn't believe. It would not run right at all. I think it has a air flow sensor somewhere and it wasnt reporting right to the computer. Ya all from the main airbox hose from the intake.
