Default lima or dura

Hey guys, first post. I've always wanted a Ranger, hell even when I had a S-10 . So last week I picked up a '08 XLT 2.3 Reg Cab Auto with only 9800 miles on it. My question is, what's the difference between a lima and a dura engine? How do you tell which you have? Glad I found this site and can't wait to read all the info. Oh by the way, this is my first Ford.....couldn't be more satisfied.

to be honest coming from someone that owned both, the duratec is better hands down, just the fact that you don't have to tear apart half the motor to get to the sparkplugs was a big seller for me

83 to 97 2.3 lima

98 to mid 01 2.5 lima

01 to present 2.3 duratec

the limas were a SOHC motor where as the duratec is a DOHC motor

the average lima puts out about 100-115 hp

while the average duratech puts down about 140hp

Plus, you don't have to worry about replacing the timing belt since the Duratec uses a chain, virtually maintenance-free
