Hello, everyone, I m Bryan and new here. I have an issue that maybe some one can help me with. A friend of mine has a 89 Ranger. It sat for a few years and then he drove it down from Maryland to Florida. It ran perfectly. Then all of a sudden it started to run rough and now it dumps fuel intermittently out the exhaust. He had a mechanic do a full tune up plugs wires etc, and that didn't fix the problem. Has any one had this problem in the past? With the engine running, I tool a long metal tool and stuck it on the injectors to hear for clicks. The first one doesn't click but the rest do. I am assuming that injector is not turning on. Or maybe bad. I would like to do this right and find out what code the computer is giving, and then go from there. The engine light is on, but I don't know how to scan for the code. Can some one explain how to scan for the codes...?

Not certain but I would think a bad injector would put less fuel than necessary in the cylinder. Not sure if they can stick open. The fuel pressure regulator could be bad. If its like mine it's vacuum actuated. If it goes bad I believe it allows the fuel pressure to go up which could cause it to run rich.

i think the fuel pressure regulator is on the fuel rail. pull the vacuum line of of it and see if there is gas in the line. there should not be. what year did obd-I start? do you have a mil? do you have codes?

Hi guys, ok, I will pull lit off. However I did forget to mention that he did have the mechanic replace that already. I dont have a Ford code reader and is does have codes b/c the light is on. Where is the diag connector located at on this vehicle? Thanks in advance....
