Oil pressure gauge fluctuates and engine bogs
Hello All,
Looking to get some more information about a problem i'm experiencing.
Specs: '99 2.5L XLT no mods 236k miles
A little backstory about the issue, when coming to a stop or idling, my oil pressure gauge will fluctuate and the engine bogs down like it wants to stall. The RPMs seem to be high until it evens out then they drop to cause the engine to want to stall.
Replacements i've done in the past 2 years:
Fuel injectors, spark plugs/wires, fuel pump/filter, fwd ignition coil, powersteering pump, coolant temp sensor swap.
The problem is recent, so i dont think it could be anything i've done recently.
Here are some thoughts i've had from reading through forums and wanna see if someone has any better advice.
Oil pressure sender/sensor - This symptom seems to be giving the fluctuating pressure, but no one seems to indicate an engine bogging
Oil Pump - failing pump could be the cause, however i haven't noticed any increased temperatures and my temp gauge reads normal and nothing else shows it getting too hot. I've noticed a hot smell when i get out after driving, but it doesn't seem "too hot"
O2 sensor - I've read that this issue could cause a misfire or bogging down and this could be smelled from the exhaust. It does smell a little lean from the exhaust, but wouldnt i notice this at speeds other than idle as well?
Thanks for your time and I'm looking forward to the advice!
