Default No spark from coil pack (Frustrated)

I am stumped as to figuring out why my truck is hesitating and misfiring. Here is the situation:
  1. Wife drove truck and complained that it started to stall and would barely go up a hill when she drove it.
  2. I checked the engine compartment and found a vacuum hose had become disconnected. Replaced the vacuum hose. Truck still hesitated.
  3. I then ran a code reader to it and got code 224. SPOUT circuit ground/coil 1,2,3,4
  4. Used my multimeter and did checks on the coil packs (primary and secondary checks) and all passed.
  5. Decided to change plugs and wires.
  6. Did a LED test on the ICM harness to check the SPOUT and PIP and they passed as well. Also had a local parts store test the ICM. It passed.
  7. I am not getting any spark from cylinders #2 and #3 from my front coil pack that feeds the driver's side. I am stumped. All wiring is good.
  8. I bought a new coil pack and replaced the coil thinking it had gone bad. Same thing happened. No spark on #2 and #3.

I ran my OBDI code scanner and it passed with "111" Had code 224 on the "continuous memory". Cleared the code and again only got "111"

I am stumped. Ran tests for Crankshaft position sensor. It passed as well. One problem I do notice is that I do not have any power going up a hill like I used to. I know it has to be due to no spark from #2 and #3.

Any suggestions? I have a 1994 Ford Ranger 2.3L

Thanks for the reply. ICM passed when I had it tested at an autoparts store. Also tested the connections with a LED test light. All good.

I also changed out the oxygen sensor today.

CEL still on. Still getting code 224 on "continuous memory."

It ended up being the ICM. Thanks for your help. When I took the old one off the first time, I didn't notice a small crack near the bolt hole closest to the engine. It wasn't noticeable until I took it off the second time.

I went to a local junk yard and bought another ICM for $10. Swapped them out and all is well. Thanks again! A new Motorcraft one from the autoparts store would have taken a big hit to my wallet.

good job posting a conclusion. Did you put the special thermolube/grease on the back of it before installing. you need to put it on to reduce the heat or else it will burn out again........
