Might have messed up. Bolt advice needed.
Hi, the truck in question is a 1990 Ford Ranger 2.3 XLT. 5 Speed Transmission with 2 wheel drive. I recently replaced the timing belt and tensioner, and in the process of removing the Crank Position Sensor bracket, accidentally removed a bolt from my rear timing cover by accident.
I Removed the 10MM directly above the (as your facing the engine from the front of it) right-hand side 8MM bolt that held the CPS bracket on. I think it's a bolt for the Auxiliary Shaft cover, or Oil Pump gear cover. When I pulled it out, there was Oil on it. No leaks or anything happened at that time, but I haven't finished putting it all back together to start the engine either.
In the process of putting the bolt back in, I feel I might have over torqued it a bit. I didn't strip it, but am seeking advice on how I should proceed. Should I back the bolt out, clean it up and add some RTV Sealant to the bolt like the water pump bolts are, and torque it to spec? Has anyone ever done something like this before? All opinions are welcomed and appreciated!
Thanks!
