Default 96 Ranger XLT shaking and strange noise

Hey so I did a search on this before making this thread, and might have a few more ideas about what might be wrong now, but might as well list everything that is wrong and see if you guys can help me out before I spend another thousand at various mechanics (don't know much about cars, sorry!).

First off, one day my truck's temperature gauge quit working. So I took it to Pep Boys (I hate them now) and they claimed to have fixed it by putting in a new thermostat, but I noticed that it would only go up a little of the way and never halfway like usual (doesn't usually have any overheating problems). So I took it back and they claimed it was something else related to that (can't remember it right now, but another part of that assembly) so they replaced that and it still didn't fix it. It will stay at the same spot usually, and go up sometimes but then back down now, so I have no idea what that is.

So to the second thing, after I got that all done, I noticed that my truck had been idling a lot worse than usual, fairly shaky sometimes, or just really high vibrations other times, I don't remember it doing it before that, but I asked my mom to take a drive in it and she said it was that the engine wasn't timed right or something. Around the same time, when I started reversing, I heard kind of a rattling sound, and I can't figure out exactly where it comes from, but when I put my truck in drive, and start going, I'll hear something that sounds like a vacuum turning off and it won't make the noise anymore. I had to have the torque converter replaced in January but other than that I haven't had a tune up in about a year or so, do you think a transmission and normal tuneup would fix a lot of this? The transmission is sluggish sometimes and now when I first turn it on and go it hesitates a ton for a few blocks of driving and then it's pretty much fine except for the other problems. Thanks for reading all of this, hopefully someone can give me a better idea! It's a 96 Ranger XLT Automatic, can't remember but I think it's a 3.0 V6.

Oh I also forgot to mention, I can feel a lot of pulsating and sometimes strange clunking coming from directly under my feet, and when the truck is going around 50 mph the transmission will make a noise and the gear will set back to 2k RPM so I'm not sure if that's related to the fixed torque converter or not.
