Default Clutch slave cylinder repair cost.

Hi! I have a question. I just had the master cylinder on my truck replaced and they charged me $250.00 for the part (Clutch Master/Slave Cylinder assembly) - but they only changed the Slave Cylinder - Not the Master and also charged $400.00 for Labor. (they said only the slave cylinder needed changing). So the total was $650.00

My question is: Is that price right?

Everything I read about the cost for this for the Ranger (on Google) suggested it may have been too much. But I'm not sure. So I thought I would ask here since you folks are all about the Ranger. Thanks!

- Sorry if this was the wrong place to ask. I wasn't sure where.

$650 is a fair price for a clutch replacement including the slave cylinder.

Thanks for your reply - but it wasn't a clutch replacement - it was just the clutch slave alone (and the hydraulic cable leading to it) - nothing else. Would you regard it as a good price for that? I really have no idea, which is why I ask.

IMO that is 3 times the going rate.

He said it cost that much ($650) because he had to drop the transmission which required a lot of work to get to the slave. 1/3 the price as you suggest would be only $217. Are you sure $217 is what he should have charged for dropping the transmission including the price of the part? While $650 may have been high (I'm not sure), $217 on the other hand seems too low considering the labor. I'm really not sure, though - your thoughts? (I should add that he said he looked at the clutch and said it looked fine and so didn't need to be replaced).
