He said it cost that much ($650) because he had to drop the transmission which required a lot of work to get to the slave. 1/3 the price as you suggest would be only $217. Are you sure $217 is what he should have charged for dropping the transmission including the price of the part? While $650 may have been high (I'm not sure), $217 on the other hand seems too low considering the labor. I'm really not sure, though - your thoughts? (I should add that he said he looked at the clutch and said it looked fine and so didn't need to be replaced).
