2.5L 176k miles, rough idle and surges
Greetings-
I am new to this forum would appreciate any help or suggestions. That aside, my problem is this: I drove my truck in the morning for 1/2 hour, everything was operating normally. Then it was parked and off for 1 hour. When I restarted the engine, it instantly began idling roughly. I held the accelerator 1/2 way, with the truck out of gear, and it began surging badly. 1 sec intervals approx. between accelerating and then sounding like it had either no fuel or air.
I have plenty of fuel in the tank, so maybe fuel filter issues? I have also heard possible vac. line probs?
Any suggestions welcome. Also any hints about where to start would be greatly appreciated! TY, jlittle

it could be a lot of things.....if it was my truck i would bring it to date with the appropriate tuneup........airfilter, plugs, wires, pcv, clean the maf, CLEAN THE IACV, and definitly change the fuel filter, no one ever changes the fuel filter enough.......if you need instructions on any of these let me know...........if those things don't solve the issue you might start suspecting the IACV, the ECT sensor, look for cracked or broken vacuum lines( these usually would throw a code!
also the first thing to do when dxing issue to to check for codes even if the cel is off the truck could still be throwing pending codes....

the plugs and wires are probably not your issue but if you do replace them only use autolite or motroraft....they have special hooks on 3 of the wires......

Re: 2.5L 176k miles, rough idle and surges
Ok so I figured out this odd little prob... after changing the fuel filter (which wasnt the problem) i discovered that the MAF sensor was faulty. I cleaned it twice but didnt help. I disconnected the MAF sensor and the truck stayed running normally. I replaced the sensor and have had no further problems!! Thank you all who replied--- I hope this thread helps others
