Decelerated then died. Cranks but won't turn over.
Hello all. I have a 1995 Ranger XLT supercab 2wd. It has the 2.3L inline 4 cylinder with the 5-speed manual transmission. While driving it the other day, it suddenly decelerated from 25mph to around 5mph. It remained at 5mph for a couple blocks, no matter what I did, then it just died. It cranks but will not turn over. I had it towed to a shop, but am not liking their estimate of over $1200. They said the fuel pressure is in spec, so that would rule out fuel problems, right? The timing belt is quite worn, so they believe that it may have started skipping/slipping. Does this sound right? I'm trying to figure out the cheapest way to get it running again. I'm going to try to fix it myself, as I have some experience. Anyway, any help or insight you could give me is greatly appreciated. Thanks!
