Stock ranger needs horsepower!
Hey guys I just purchased a used 2002 2.3l automatic ford ranger. I am ultra excited to start working on the car to improve it to the best of my ability. If some of you experts would give me advice on what would be the best performance upgrades I can do for my new truck and the best order to do them in.
This is what I was thinking but please give me any and all suggestions you have!
- intake
- exhaust
- spark plugs
- header
- tune chip
- turbo

Turbo can do it relatively cheap, turborangerforums.com browse around there

Re: Stock ranger needs horsepower!
it's an '02, there fore d-tech, therefore a lil harder to turbo. But still, doable and worth it.
If you do change the plugs, be sure to put an iridium plug back in it, and a Tuner is gonna see you the largest gains.

Re: Stock ranger needs horsepower!
A turbo will give you the largest gain. An exhaust will give you some too but watch it. Open the exhaust up too much and you'll loose torque. With the turbo and the exhaust, an intake might be worth while but only if it is a true cold air intake. If it picks up air any where in the engine compartment, you might as well stay stock. The stock intake is pretty much a CAI as it is.

The only thing on that list that will do much at all is the turbo.
The rest might pick you up and additional 10HP total

Re: Stock ranger needs horsepower!
It sounds like that best thing I can do for my truck is get a turbo.. What kind should I get considering my engine type? Is there anything else to consider when I am putting a turbo into my truck?
