Default Leaking oil pan gasket

I have a 95 2.3L with a leaking oil pan gasket. I got ready to replace it and looked at the Ford manual and it says step 1 is remove the engine!!!
Do you really have to do that? I was expecting to take out about 15 bolts and just drop it down.

Im not familiar with that particular year/engine combo but it is fairly common on most rangers to need to at least unbolt and jack up the engine slightly to get the pan to clear the crossmember / front diff.

I just wanted to tighten all my oil pan bolts up to back to spec one day and I saw that I would only be able to get a socket and torque wrench on like about 3 of the bolts. Let alone removing the whole pan. You'd probably have to unbolt the engine mounts and jack the engine up at the bare minimum. But with the transmission attached it ain't gonna jack up more than probably an inch or two.
