Default 2000 2.5L Crankshaft bolt size

Looking for the crankshaft bolt size on a 2000 Ford ranger 2wd.

Friend of mine had it make a grinding noise and stop running in the extreme cold we had the other night. I went over then with a battery booster and when we would try to start it it would just make a clicking noise which was just a single click. I'm suspecting a faulty solenoid or starter which I have to test for.

First thing I want to do though is make sure that I can Han crank the engine was a ratchet to get it to turn over to make sure the engine isn't seized up because he said it just quit running going down the road.

One quick question I do have on the Ford Rangers is if the signal wire going to the starter is corroded or compromised in any way will that cause it to shut off if it's already running or will it stay running as I normally don't dabble in this stuff I'm just helping a friend out?

The reason I ask this is I noticed one of the wires going to the starter had been taped over about six inches from the starter with electrical tape which tells me it was probably repaired at one time or another and maybe not properly.

If that's the case I will fix it if it turns out to be the issue but I am wondering if that would cause it to stop the engine from running for example if it was shorting out or something to that effect?

The lead from the ignition switch to the starter relay should not affect a running engine. It just powers the coils in the relay to close the big contacts and send full battery amps to the starter motor.
OTOH if you have the newer style starter, with the solenoid mounted on the starter, there may be wires to the coil to provide full voltage to the coil for starting. Once the starter disengages, power to the coil would go through a resistor to drop the voltage and make the coil run cooler.
Go to bbbind dot com, register, and get a wiring diagram to see how the starter relay & solenoid are wired up.

Yeah it had a hot wire direct from the battery, fused I'm certain with a 40-50 amp fuse.

There's also a yellow switched wire which when power is applied completes the circuit and kicks the starter.

Remove the starter, use my battery booster along with a starter switch and verified the starter was good as it kicked out and spun.

Used a 22 mm socket with a half-inch drive extended pry bar and slowly Rock the engine back and forth a little bit to make sure it was free and it was. Continued moving the engine around to make sure everything was good and there was no binding which was the case.

Installed the starter, gave it a tap with some electricity and it wound over.

Here's a video that has left me scratching my head. Valvetrain? That's the direction I'm leaning. Note when this noise was going on I did smell gas but also had to depress the gas pedal all the way to get it to run otherwise it would just die out like a stuck pig.
