Default 2.5 speedometer

My 98 ranger 2.5 engine speedometer is off. Running about 10 mph fast any suggestions?

is it 10mph off throughout the entire range? or does it start pretty close down low and the gap increase as you get up to speed?

reason i ask is because the first can be fixed by pulling the instrument cluster and manually moving the needle using a neat little procedure for accurate placement. the later, sounds like a re-calibration is in order, dealership is probably the easiest. i'd love to hear more thought tho!

If it is an electronic speedometer, without a cable from the transmission, it can be re-programmed a number of times to match the installed tires & differential gear ratio.
If it is mechanical, and the odometer also reads high, recording more miles than are actually drivern, the gear in the tailhousing of the transmission can be changed to match the actual drive train gearing.
