Default ruh, ruh...click suggestions please?

My well behaved 2010 4cyl plain jane truck was kind to me, dying at home rather than someplace distant.

I turned the key....ruh....ruh....ruh...click.

Damn, I thought...dead battery.

Battery fully charged, added a 50 amp charger...click

Checked terminals....no change.

So I presume a dead starter because of the ruh...ruh...ruh

Suggestions on repair? Use Ford starter... Does the solenoid fail frequently, rebuilt... buy new?

Suggestions appreciated,

Thanks

i don't know nothing specifically about the duratec 2.3 starters, but be sure and check the cables at the starter itself. with any luck, its just corroded and you can clean it up!

Just because your battery is charged doesn't mean it is good. I would have it tested. I've had issues like that with mine, the battery was charged so I threw a different one in and it fired right up.

Is it a manual ? If itís manual then have some one help you with it in gear push it a few feet then try to turn it over if nothing have some one hit the starter and you try to crank it once they go bad you can usually get them to start one more time like that

I'm pretty sure the solenoid is mounted atop the starter motor. If it fails, or the teeth of the Bendix drive don't mesh with the flywheel teeth, you'll get a 'click' and nothing else. The teeth must be pushed into the flywheel teeth, and, once engaged, the 'power' connection will be made to energize the starter motor.
I'd check the solenoid. But first, I'd grab the pulley on the front end of the crankshaft, or any other pulley, and rotate the crankshaft in either direction a few degrees. If the teeth not meshing are the problem, you will have moved the flywheel teeth so that the starter gear teeth may be able to mesh.
Sometimes, the teeth get a 'burr', either set, or both, that prevents them from meshing. That will make starting difficult. The burr can be addressed (Hi Burr!) with a file or grinding wheel to smooth it such that the teeth may engage better for a while. If the starter solenoid was having problems, it may cause such wear.

Thanks all, the connections were solid. A 2nd battery did not help. Got a new (rebuilt) starter, working fine now.

I couldn't tell you, I had a shop do it--too much snow for me to even think of trying to replace it in winter. Ford dealer wanted $400 for a OEM rebuilt--yikes. I went with an aftermarket installed for $260.

The solenoids are not removable.
