Default Brand new head ticks ideas?

I put a new head on my 96 2.3 and when i fired it up it ticks like a lifter tick. I didn't wanna run it long to prevent damage it's got good oil pressure and I prelubed the head also jumped oil in the valve cover to make sure it had oilup there. I read something about a hydraulic valve adjuster not sure if that's a real think and or how to adjust them. Any info is greatly appreciated

Did you buy a bare head without the valves and springs? or did it come complete with the camshaft, valves springs, shims ETC ?

You have two choices that I can figure. Figure out which lifter support is loose, remove the follower and pull/replace that support, or, do the job over from scratch, and get another new head.
If you run the engine with the cam cover removed, thinking you'll find the loose/ticking one, be prepared for a hurricane of oil to rust-proof your engine compartment. The Lima throws oil everywhere with the cover removed, so be prepared if you try that option.
A third thing to do is to collapse all the supports, put the cover back on, and try again. Sometimes a lifter/support can get hung, and moving it internally will free it up.
There are a few in my old truck that will sometimes tap for a few seconds at cold startup, but it does not last. If you keep firm pressure on each support, it will collapse, and bleed the oil out of the internal cylinder. Then, when you start, they will all tap and clatter until they get filled with oil.
In the old days, a good highway run would clear up a tapping hydraulic in some cases. I did an oil change on a Cadillac, and rev'd the engine a bit too soon, and it tapped. The owner & his buddy took it for a highway run, and it came back quiet. That is option 4.

Sorry for the late reply I let the truck sit over night and it fired up rattled for a second and ran quiet so maybe sitting over night air made it's way out and oil had a chance to soak into everything but it worked and has 1k miles on the new head no issues. It was a complete head new valves springs and cam all installed prior to me buying it
Thanks for the help!
