Default Camshaft position sensor location

I can't seem to find the location of the camshaft position sensor on 1999 ranger 2.5L. OBD gave me the error code.

Oil needle on gauge sits at bottom while warming up, until engine temperature reaches about 1/3 temp. Then oil needle will shoot into position and stay or will jump around and then stay at normal level.

Does the camshaft position sensor and oil gauge problem, anyway related?

Camshaft sensor is behind the oil pump pulley. You can see it if you look closely under the power steering pump from the side. Through wheel well maybe best bet.

I would suggest replacing the sending unit. It is mounted on the side of the cylinder head, drivers side, rear. It has one wire. When oil pressure is above 5-8 psi, the switch closes, and grounds the gauge wire. There is a resistor in the circuit that will put the gauge pointer about in the middle when the wire is grounded. You can test by grounding the wire yourself with the ignition switch in ON position. It should read in the middle.
I am expecting your sender to be a bit gummy, not closing until the engine is warm.
It is relatively easy to replace, and can be done without doing anything with the oil in the crankcase sump. Just disconnect the single wire, unscrew the old switch, and screw in the new switch. You may want to put some pipe compound on the threads, or carefully use some Teflon tape(don't get any inside the engine). Don't overtighten.
